After the Brits, my newsfeed was full of people proclaiming that music is dead, the golden era is over.

But the truth of the matter is that there is lots of great music out there – it just isn’t necessarily in the top 40.  The great news is that it’s never been easier to listen and discover a wide range of music without gatekeepers and suits deciding what you should be listening to.

With so much music out there though, sifting through the mediocre to find the gems takes time and dedication, so I like to periodically round-up some of the stuff I like.

Listen to these and tell me there’s no good new music with a straight face!  You might not like everything (I have notoriously eclectic tastes), but you might just discover your new favourite band or artist, or indeed a renewed love of music!

Laura Gibson

I’ve not been this excited about an artist for ages, if you like this song (and who wouldn’t?) there are plenty more where that came from on her albums.  Thank me later, and see you at her next UK gig 🙂

Incidentally, the main image is a band called Kind Stranger who supported Laura Gibson on Wednesday night.  I’d have included one of their songs as they were great, but I can’t find any trace of them online.  If you get a chance to check them out, they are well worth it!
